Marine Pilot Zanger

On December 5, 1944 U. S. Marine Corps (USMC) fighter pilot 1st Lt. Moszek “Mike/Murray” Zanger from Marine Fighting Squadron 222 (VMF-222) “Flying Deuces” suffered an aerial collision over New Britain. Damaged, he bailed out of his Corsair and became a Prisoner Of War (POW) until “shot trying to escape” in July 1945. This site is devoted to documenting the efforts of his three nieces plus historians Henry Sakaida and Justin Taylan to honor Zanger’s legacy.
